Hypnosis in Surgery (Hypnosedation)

The use of hypnosis in surgery may alarm some people but thousands of procedures are now being performed this way and its use is increasing. Indeed hypnosis could eventually replace a significant number of the 100 million general anaesthetics given worldwide each year.

Surgeons are also discovering that hypnosedation has some remarkable benefits. For a start, patients bleed less which makes surgery easier to perform, particularly nose or breast operations, where incisions often lead to copious bleeding.

Even those who donโ€™t actually use hypnosedation in their procedure could still find that hypnotherapy can reduce any anxiety patients feel about forthcoming operations. It can also be used to minimise post-operative pain and enable a faster recovery and a better overall experience.
